Hybridizing with Phalaenopsis Species
by Bill Livingston
Phalaenopsis fuscata
Flowers are yellow with the basal half to two-thirds of the sepals and petals covered with a large brown blotch, and the lip is also marked with brown. Some hybrids have produced tawny pink flowers while other hybrids are yellow overlaid with spots and stripes, and with the lip generally showing a pattern or markings. These species were very slow and difficult to grow. Both P. kunstleri and P. fuscata have poor shape and their hybrids pick up this characteristic.
