Mother flasks We are glad to be spending more energy on species propagation and primary hybrids, and have been cooperating with other hybridizers to increase quality through sharing genetic material. We have some great species and primary hybrids on the way.

Due to the rather short shelf-life of flasks, we are moving towards selling seedlings from trays. We can give the best pricing and the most continuous supply that way. However, in order to satisfy the International market in a way that is as unimpeded by CITIES as possible, we will be marketing some material in-vitro. Domestic customers are also welcome to purchase in-vitro.

Most of our in-vitro sales are now spreads; this means that if you cannot transflask these upon arrival, you should be looking at the Seedling Page. The material being offered on this page may be anywhere from small protocorms, to well-differentiated small plants. Experience has shown that the best way to ship these is in 50ml centrifuge tubes with no media. Upon arrival, non-differentiated material should be spread on germination media, differentiated material should be spread on replate media.

Centrifuge tubes

Flasks are exempt from CITIES, but in most cases shipping to destinations outside the US requires a Phyto. Phytos will be billed at US$25 per order. Many countries require an import permit before USDA can write a Phyto. I have an inspection program in place (for Sweet Potato White Fly) so that I can ship to EU. Customers will be expected to cover all costs of documentation required to ship to their location. Orders to destinations outside the US will be required to pay 15% of the product total to cover charges for duty. All this overhead means that small orders are probably not worth it for either of us. I do not have a minimum order, but FedEx shipping to EU for a small box, with phyto starts at about US$150. I can ship about US$1000 worth of material for that US$150.

Domestic customers can also purchase in-vitro, but I recommend buying bare-root seedlings from trays, as I can supply seedlings for longer than flasks, and the plants ship better out of flask anyway. I will have seedlings available from most of these crosses, once they come out of the lab.

Indicates an offering that is newly listed for Spring 2008

Pricing: $50 for a 50 ml. Centrifuge Tube with approximately 100 protocorms (enough to do about 5 - 10 replates), unless marked otherwise.

DG0701 Phal. cornu-cervi f. chattaladae

Phal. cornu-cervi f. chattaladae 'Chinainthorn'
 X
Phal. cornu-cervi f. chattaladae
FIRST US RELEASE! This seed came from the type plant of the forma, 'Chinainthorn'; I got the capsule from Dr. Grove. If you want solid red cornu-cervi, this is the one to get. Very limited quantity available. 50 protocorms/US$250; limit 100 protocorms per customer.

RB1468 Phal. (Mambo x Penang Girl)

Phal. Mambo 'Stan'
 X
Phal. Penang Girl 'Joseph Wu'
'Stan' is always in flower, and it forms basal keikis. It has great color and is very flat. This cross should produce small intensely colored flowers, and many of the plants should flower nearly continuously. Many of these could also be fragrant.

RB1505 Phal. (Mambo x Marie's Delight)

Phal. Mambo 'WO8664-1'
 X
Phal. Marie's Delight 'Dark Red'
Another Mambo hybrid intended to leverage its color and constant flowering. Here one of my best Mambo is mated with an exceptional Marie's Delight. Exremely limited availability. US$100/tube.

RB1641 Phal. venosa

Phal. venosa 'El Dorado'
 X
Phal. venosa 'Dark Red'
A cross of two of my best venosa. The capsule parent is extremely flat and the pollen parent is Joseph Wu's very dark red cv. I expect a wide range of variation in the progeny with many fine cultivars. US$100/Tube.

RB1662 Phal. Golden Bells

Phal. Golden Sands 'Canary' FCC/AOS
 X
Phal. venosa 'Dark Red'
A remake of an HP Norton hybrid that produced some excellent tetraploid yellow foundation stock, using a modern and superior red venosa. Expect exceptional color. Limited. US$100/tube.

RB1664 Phal. Golden Amboin

Phal. Golden Sands 'Canary' FCC/AOS
 X
Phal. amboinensis 'Nashville' AM/AOS
A remake of a very old hybrid that produced some excellent tetraploid yellow foundation stock, using a modern and superior yellow amboinensis. Limited.

RB1672 Phal. Mannosa

Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
 X
Phal. venosa 'El Dorado'
Parallel cross to Mambo. Expect better color than Mambo, and much richer orange given the parents. These flowers should be very flat. With mannii as the capsule parent, these will carry more flowers than the reverse. US$100/Tube.

RB1673 Phal. Mannosa

Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
 X
Phal. venosa 'Rondo'
Parallel cross to Mambo. Expect better color than Mambo, and much richer orange given the burnt orange venosa parent. With mannii as the capsule parent, these will carry more flowers than the reverse. US$100/Tube.

RB1684 Phal. (Rousserole x Brother Elegance)

Phal. Rousserole 'Crown'
 X
Phal. Brother Elegance 'Granite Creek'
An f3 Rousserole is here mated with an f2 Brother Elegance. Expect heavy substance on a variety of spotted flowers. Excellent color. Brother Elegance is from Paifang's Queen line breeding; Paifang's Queen is Gladys Read x lueddemanniana. The Paifang's Queen used was a chance tetraploid.

RB1685 Phal. Mannosa

Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
 X
Phal. venosa 'Dark Red'
Parallel cross to Mambo. Expect better color than Mambo, and much richer red given the parents. With mannii as a capsule parent, these will carry more flowers than the reverse. US$100/tube.

RB1687 Phal. (Mambo x tetraspis)

Phal. Mambo 'Stan'
 X
Phal. tetraspis 'C#1'
My first hybrid with the unique tetraspis 'C#1'. Will the interesting pigmentation mutation from 'C#1' be expressed? This will probably be an interesting cross, even if the irregular solid colored segments are not a heritable trait.

RB1690 Phal. (venosa x Mirth)

Phal. venosa 'El Dorado'
 X
Phal. Mirth 'Malibu'
Counting on venosa to flatten out the Mirth, without losing any color. I expect this could be a very interesting hybrid, with very intense color.

RB1700 Phal. (Georges Seurat x Sand Pebbles)

Phal. Georges Seurat 'Memoria Josephina Caso' AM/AOS
 X
Phal. Sand Pebbles 'Echo Valley' HCC/AOS
High-quality pristine white flowers with fine dark purple spotting and excellent carriage should result from this mating. Francine line-breeding, should have excellent lip color.

RB1701

Seedling photo from original cross
Phal. Glad Pebbles

Phal. Be Glad 'Orchid Classic' AM/AOS
 X
Phal. Sand Pebbles 'Echo Valley' HCC/AOS
A remake of one of my favorite Multiflora crosses, using a superior Sand Pebbles. The original cross produced several stellar spotted Multifloras.

RB1703 Phal. Mannosa

Phal. venosa 'Redgold'
 X
Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
Parallel cross to Mambo. Expect better color than Mambo, and much more red given the parents. Look for better form and size but perhaps fewer flowers than the reverse, RB1704.

RB1704 Phal. Mannosa

Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
 X
Phal. venosa 'Redgold'
Parallel cross to Mambo. Expect better color than Mambo, and a very distinctive red given the parents. Should have smaller, but more flowers than the reverse, RB1703. US$100/tube.

RB1789 Phal. (mannii x tetraspis)

Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
 X
Phal. tetraspis 'C#1'
Another potentially exciting tetraspis 'C#1' hybrid. This one should produce higher flower counts.

RB1795 Phal. (Bedford Goldence x Border's Gold)

Phal. Bedford Goldence '#2'
 X
Phal. Border's Gold 'Butterscotch'
Both parents have exceptional color and very heavy substance; the Bedford Goldence is a glowing lemon yellow and the Borders Gold has that rich saturated golden color from Prospector's Dream. Excellent potential. Near 4n if not 4n. Limited.

RB1832 Phal. (Mahinhin x mannii)

Phal. Mahinhin 'Peloric'
 X
Phal. mannii 'Shaffers #1'
A peloric solid purple Mahinhin (equestris x lueddemanniana) is here crossed with a very good mannii. No idea how many may come peloric, but even if they do not, there should be nice reds in the outcome. Very nice looking little plantlets.

RB1881 Phal. javanica

Phal. javanica '#2'
 X
Phal. javanica '#3'
A sib cross of two fairly typical javanica. Just looking to preserve genetic diversity of this extinct or nearly extinct species. Very cute pendent habit; begin flowering on very small plants.

RB1930 Phal. (Mambo x Paifang's Taipei Girl)

Phal. Mambo 'Stan'
 X
Phal. Paifang's Taipei Girl
Phal amboinensis line breeding with cornu-cervi and mannii. (Paifang's Taipei Girl = Corona x amboinensis) Expect medium small rich yellow flowers with red barring. Some may be ever-blooming.

RB1944 Phal. Mancervi

Phal. mannii 'OO6354-1'
 X
Phal. cornu-cervi 'Santa Cruz'
The cornu-cervi used in this cross belonged to Herb Hager. When flowered cold, it gets nearly solid red with a slight yellow picotee; quite possibly a fma. sanguinea. The mannii used is a selfing of mannii 'Shaffer #1' that has slightly more intense color. Expect small flowers in yellow orange and red with continuous flowering on mature plants.

RB1954 Phal. (Mirth x tetraspis)

Phal. Mirth 'Malibu'
 X
Phal. tetraspis 'C#1'
The capsule parent is Lucata 'Malibu' (which is actually probably Mirth = fasciata x fuscata); whatever you call it, it has very rich color and interesting markings. This should be another interesting cross.

RB1997 Phal. (Golden Pride x (heiroglyphica x fasciata))

Phal. Golden Pride 'Hugo Freed' HCC/AOS
 X
Phal. (heiroglyphica x fasciata) 'HVM490'
This should be strongly yellow with good size and be be quite flat for two grandparents being P. fasciata. Look for the heiroglyphica grandparent to modulate the markings on some cultivars.

RB2023 Phal. (lindenii x Venus)

Phal. lindenii 'P2'
 X
Phal. Venus 'Hot Lips'
A spectacular Phal. Venus is here back-crossed to a very nice lindenii. Expect lindenii-like flowers with a strong tendency to have stripes. Probably will be easier to grow than pure lindenii and have better color.

Coming Attractions

Replates of Phal. cornu-cervi f. chattaladae,
are being made right now.
Watch for these to become available to order this Summer.

DG0701 Phalenopsis cornu-cervi f. chattaladae 'Chinainthorn' x sib
DG0702 Phalenopsis cornu-cervi f. chattaladae x sib

Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi f. chattaladae flasks are being planted out at 5 and 15 plants per flask. Price to be determined. I am currently using the plastic poly-box type flasks for the 15 plant flasks; these containers allow excellent gas exchange, yet are still inexpensive and economical to ship. I am using these vessels for the 5 plant flasks.

The fine print: Offers limited and subject to stock on hand. Offers may be withdrawn at any time. We reserve the right to alter prices at any time. All material is guaranteed to be correctly labeled.
